Ask and Answer WH Question BINGO Review

Today I am reviewing WH Bingo by Super Duper Inc. I was given this item to review, but no other compensation was received for completing this review. Overall I really liked the product. I have some very low level junior high students this year and they all really liked this item. WH questions can sometimes get monotonous to work on whether you are a student completing the task or SLP teaching WH questions.

There are what, when, where, who, why and WH combo bingo sets (bingo cards and question cards). I really like that they are already laminated for durability because sometimes my kids are tough on cards without even trying to be. The cards as seen below are easy to read and the answer is already on the card along with a picture cue.

My students overall enjoyed the game! I used it as a reinforcer activity because the students that I played this with got caught up in the competition instead of the actual idea of therapy. I played the black out version and the turn by turn version of BINGO.

Pros: It is simple and easy to carry out as a therapy activity. The WH questions are relevant and my students loved playing BINGO. I liked that all the players could place a token down at each turn so they all remained involved in the activity at all times and benefited from the challenge.

Cons: I didn't like that the answer was on the card. I like when my kids can pick up their own cards and read the stimulus question aloud when able. Since the answer was on the card it made it impossible for me sit back and just give cues. I had to read aloud every card. I also wish that there were more stimulus cards than answers on the game board. Each time a student answered a question, every student was able to put down a token and my students didn't really understand why.

Free Space Friday: Super Duper Storage Tins!

I was perusing the Super Duper Website yesterday when writing my blog post yesterday and I came across this wonderful item! Storage tins! There are two different sizes- seen below.  Click on the images below to see the tins on the website.

                           

This might be an answer for all of you looking for ideas for storage for TPT cards purchased! 

For the small tin, you get 10 tins for 19.95 and for the larger tin you get 10 for 21.95.

I am SO excited about these and I am going to do some investigating with my card tins and TPT purchases to see if they can accommodate some of my cards from those activities!

Thank Goodness for Grannies Candies!

I have owned Grannies Candies ever since I began as a clinician in the school environment. My students absolutely LOVE this game! They liked the original version SO much that I decided to buy the 2nd and 3rd versions of Grannies Candies as well. Here is a short and sweet review of one of my favorite items from Super Duper Inc.

Set 1- Game of Word Meanings!

This is the fun game board that comes with the game!

In the original version (Set 1) , you receive 672 word-meaning cards (84 for each area below):

What belongs in this group? Which one doesn't belong? Give a describing word. How are they alike?

What do these have in common? What is this used for? How are they different? Give an action word.

These are examples of some of the game cards!

Now for Set 2-Vocabulary and Figurative Language Edition!

Set 2 includes 672 semantic skills cards (84 for each skill area):

Name a word similar to this one. (Synonyms)   Name a word opposite of this one. (Opposites) Give two meanings for this word. (Homonyms) What do these words mean? (Homophones) What do these words mean? (Heteronyms) What does this phrase mean? (Idioms) What does this phrase mean? (Similes) What does this sentence mean? (Metaphors)

Now for Set 3-Verb Edition!

Set 3 includes 672 word-meaning cards in these areas:

Regular Past Tense Irregular Past Tense Is-Are Was-Were Has-Have Do-Does

Verb + ing Main Verbs and Helping Verbs Subject-Verb Agreement Active-Passive Voice Past, Present, and Future Tense Contractions

I often use the game board and the candies using other cards and/or TPT activities! 

This activity is a wonderful edition to any speech room and offers SO many cards in each area that enables each of the 3 versions to be used more than once without the student's predicting answers. For holidays, I bring in some real candy and use them with the game candy pieces for added fun! The game candy pieces also fit in the Super Duper Token Towers like you see here. My students who like knowing and seeing their progress visually uses these when playing the game. Sometimes I use the game board and these token towers at the same time depending on the students I have in my group. They like to be able to choose which way they will keep track of their treats =D

Thank Goodness for...Neds Head from Super Duper Inc.

Ned's Head from www.superduperinc.com is a great item to have in your speech room! Kids love to stick their hands in his ears and nose to find hidden items.

Here are some ways you could use it:

1. As an incentive! Each time the student completes a task- the student can reach in to get an incentive. I usually put in some small rubber dinosours. If the student gets a green dinosaur, then they get a piece of candy. If they get a red dinosaur, they do not. I only put in a few green dinosaurs.

2. As a sentence generation task! Have the student reach in the head and pick out a card or object. The student then has to create a sentence using the object/picture.

3. Description Task: I hid different cards or objects in Ned's Head and had the students describe the picture.

4. Articulation Task: Have each student draw a card from the head. The student would say the word/phrase/sentence.

5. Sorting Activity: Place items in the head that can belong to different categories. The students will reach in and grab a card/object and place it in the correct spot.

These are just some of the ways I utilize Ned's Head in my speech room! Have you used Ned's Head before?
